14 Aug 2009 11:58 PM posted in Spleen removed, can I ride again?

Hi all, As I write this i'm currently sitting at home recovering from what was a bad downhill MTB accident last weekend that led to the removal of my spleen! Anyway, to give you an overview, I race DH competitively here in SA, do a lot of road training for cardio and strength and have recently (before the accident) been thinking of trying my luck out at the crit races over summer. I'm just interested in hearing any advice or things you may know about similiar situations with spleen injury and how they can have an effect on cycling? My doctor told me I should be fine to compete again in another 6 weeks or so, allthough I might play it safe and leave it a little longer than that. I just dont wan't to find myself being rushed back to hospital because i've overdone it on a hillclimb / downhill etc and rutured something inside me again! edited by Nathan Wicker on 10/12/2009
