Ridewiser 3 Side Ride Circuit

Ridewiser 3SideRide course is (1) clever, (2) motivating & (3) ideal for climbing training & improvement. (1) Clever: because the 3 major climb sides of the Dandenongs of the 3SideRide route are in perfect order for the most effective physiological training patter, from a graduated climb first (Belgrave Side), to a difficult steeper climb second (Olinda Wall Side), to hardest & longest climb finally (Montrose-Olinda Side). (2) Motivating: because the 3SideRide offers some of the best scenery in the Dandenongs, it allows an easy shortened version for training riders to complete just 2 sides and turn left for home at Olinda the first time reached, and the course allws less experienced riders to join in on the course and easily meet up again with other for the final descent if riding slower by just turning short on the descent to Montrose when they see friends approaching on their way back up! (3) Ideal: because the muscles will gain a lot of lactic build-up over the course due to the accumulation climbing effect of adding 3 x 30mins climbing to 3 x 15mins descending to make for a neat 'B Grade' overall circuit time of 2hrs:15mins. Club A Grade level riders getting fit should expect to go closer to 2hrs for the circuit, and OPEN elite climbing/descending riders should aim for sub 1hr:55mins for the 64km circuit back to the traffic lights of the Burwood Hwy/Tourist Rd intersection start point.

Directions

Caution: not easy to complete the full circuit on your first attempt - do 2 sides and then go home from Olinda summit until next time! Smart: take the first side easily, get to know the course properly as there are 3 turns on Side 1 worth getting right (800m on dirt of Waterfield Rd at the base of descent 1 is friendly but has pot-holes) Fitter: use Side 2 as the main getting fit climb, body's warmed up, need a range of gearing, all ascending for 25mins minimum, hot mix roads mostly Serious: clock your ride time for the final climb Side 3 from Montrose ped crossing to Olinda ped crossing at the town shops; this is a great way to gauge your alpine climbing fitness for events using multiple climbing challenges or race climbing where you might be fatigued for the most important section of the race.

Start Point: Traffic Lights of Burwood Hwy & Mt Dandenong Tourist Rd on the bend.

End point: Traffic Lights of Burwood Hwy & Mt Dandenong Tourist Rd on the bend.
