Harley, its the old freeway, just past halfway, a mate of mine was there (might be his photo, will see). During 15-day heatwave a couple of summers back, koala was on the road and not looking good, gladly came over when offered a drink.

Thanks for the comments Dwayne and Cos - only seeing the way the media potrays Cadel and seeing interviews only in formal settings or after races has definitely given me a certain impression. To me, he comes across as negative in what I've seen, so I'm glad to see that in person this didn't seem to be the case.

I was intrigued that they ran us into Mt Barker from Strath on the main road. I figure there must be a reason that I'm missing, it can't just be to make the kilometres because a bit of a click around on google maps makes it easy to find an appropriate loop.

Pretty good points I reckon Michael - just a bit too eccentric to be the type of leader that can win the Tour, especially when his key strength is dogged determination rather than bursting away.

Maggie on Sheoak Rd is a cunning bugger, has twice targeted the left ear below the helmet with success. If you're going downhill, its after the steep 20% bit where the road is very rough after the one-way thing.
