I haven't encountered problems with magpies yet, but I probably will now. What did happen once was one of those green parrots zigged when he should have and hit me square in the chest. It hurt like buggery, knocked the wind out of me and left a fair sort of a bruise to the little prick. He did manged to fly off but looked looked like someone leaving a pub at midnight!!!

Hi Troy, I used to ride a Specialized Tarmac - it was very light and fast but sold it after I stopped riding. I recently bought an Orbea Vento. The frame probably isn't quite as stiff but it is comfortable and like specialized Orbea also give a lifetime warranty. For the money you are talking about, $8000, you could comforatbly get an Orca runnining full dura ace, which i'm sure would be a great ride. I used to ride the Dura Ace grouppo on my Tarmac, my Orbea runs the Ultegra SL which apart from a few grams doesn't seem noticeably different. They also have the replacecable R/D hanger too. It's always a personal choice and the "bling" factor always comes into I guess. Specialized or Orbea due get my vote though. Cheers

Alright, so we have the wheels sorted....what about bars? Carbon or alloy? Still commuting and longer weekend rides with a view to racing again .....eventually. Any thoughts?

I guess I'll find out one way or the other. I actually ad Ksyrium elites and must have struck a bad batch - I had spokes coming lose after 40km's. Took them back to my LBS and had them trued only to have them come loose again. Mavic were aware of the problem and upgraded me to the SL's which was very nice. Didn't have any trouble with the SL's at all, just couldn't afford to get another set right now so the Fulcrums are on deck. I'll post a review after I've don a few hundre K's

Thanks for the replies. I was gonna go with Greg at TWE but was looking at some wheels at an Adelaide bike shop and got Fulcrum 3's for 750 bucks. Couldn't pass them up at the price so I'll see how we go....
Cheers
