I noticed Bike Insurance mentioned, bit off the topic but anyone got recommendations?
For comprehensive house and contents inc bike (as long as I am not racing or motor pacing, which I don't) I switched to CGU. Mutual Community also seems to have fully covered a mates bike mishap (car turned in front of him). Whatever you do carefully read the fine print, and make sure it covers you when you are riding, or having a coffee. Some only cover when it is in secure premises, or locked in a locked garage.
