John commented on his own time: "Cool, humid, mostly overcast with little sun. Had 34/30 gearing but not enough juice in the tank. Pushed 280W for a while, dropped back to average to 255W."

John commented on Gavin Dore's time: "Well done. I note that your 1/20 time is improving...sub 19 min next!"

John commented on his own time: "Warm sunny and still,14.46 Start, first few km had me considering pulling the pin. Mt Buller and the drive had me stuck with leaden legs."

John commented on his own time: "With Volk, Mark & Matt. Rode light to medium base climb (9.46.2), then hard to maximum for steep section (7.25.7, 7.32.7 to yellow line)."

John commented on his own time: "Steady climb with Brett, moderate effort although legs lacked zap (had sprinted up Canterbury Rd hill). Magnificent day for riding."

They look fantastic. While the quality of material and manufacture looks similar to previous years I have/had little to question previously (the 1 exception: the zip on the orange jersey sticks). For the life of me I cannot understand how/why the same manufacturer would increase the dimension of their sizes by the equivalent of two sizes. The first top I received, an XL was too small, the next year I (and friends) adjusted and ordered XXL... the fit (apart from tight sleeve cuffs) was good and remained so until this year when they have resized for giants with huge arms and chests and slim waists. I caana no (to quote James West)

TDU Challenge Riders check your tops. The tops seem to be two to three sizes larger than previous years... ok if you want a tent (or a sail for those tail winds)!

Sorry getting off topic ... it would be good to see Nick's thought the subject of a separate post. Back to Cadel. To remove ambiguity, I am an unashamed CE fan. His honesty is refreshing and I believe he is loyal to his team (but this is not at the expense of his honesty). I hope he is part of a team that enables him to maximize his outcomes next year. Although you make your own luck, Cadel has certainly been saddled with an excess of bad luck of recent times. And his attack was awe inspiring with a well deserved win the result... Go Cadel (for some time to come).

"So if the Tour was a three week series of individual time trials with each rider plugging over the mountains & into the cross winds all day by themselves , then who would be the winner ?" Jens maybe... interesting idea and good subject that would be subject of much debate... certainly I don't see LA winning ;)

Cadel seems to be a decent bloke. However his painful honesty and quiet understated persona do not seem to endear him to many. My guess is he will stay with SL (they appear to appreciate him even if they have shortcomings: money... dedication to EU classics esp Belgian ones and perhaps not the best DS), , foster the next generation, win a few classics and maybe the Vuelta...:)
