Standedge from Marsden. Hill Climb
Big wide road with overtaking lane on most of the ascent but with only light traffic . I don't know the area or it's history but it feels like it was an important trans pennine route , perhaps before the M62 was built. No danger of dehydration as the climb has two pubs on the way up & another just over the summit & another on the way down the other side - although the latter is burned out at present ( 2010 ) . Very even gradient of around 4.4 % according to my Polar.
